Are Air Macau's in-flight meals delicious? Unpalatable?

[Air Macau Guide] Air Macau's in-flight meals

Air Macau (Macau Airlines) is not a very famous airline in Japan, so I am very curious about what the in-flight meals are like.

This time, we ate the in-flight meal on Air Macau during our trip to Macau, so we will report on the details! Is Air Macau's in-flight food delicious or bad? If you are planning to use Air Macau from now on, please use this as a reference.

Air Macau in-flight meal departing from Osaka

[Air Macau Guide] Air Macau's in-flight meals

First of all, we started with an in-flight meal in economy class on our first flight with Air Macau, flight NX855 (KIX→MFM) from Osaka/Kansai to Macau.

Shortly after the plane took off and entered a stable route, flight attendants began serving meals on board.

Air Macau's economy class in-flight meals have a traditional in-flight style where there is no menu and the flight attendant asks you if you want FISH or CHICKEN, and you choose between them.

On Air Macau's routes to Japan, there are two Japanese flight attendants on board, so you don't need to know English or Chinese. It's a big plus that you can feel safe even with foreign airlines.

Seafood in-flight meal

Now, let's take a look at the most important in-flight meals. First of all, this is the "FISH" in-flight meal that I (Morio) ate...However, although the CA said it was FISH, what actually arrived was rice cooked with scallops as the main dish. It feels more like seafood than fish. Salad, tea soba, and a small castella sweet are served as accompaniments.

For those who were concerned about the taste of the in-flight food...it was just delicious. In terms of quality, it's about as delicious as a convenience store bento. Even though it's Air Macau, the plane departs from Osaka. I think this in-flight meal is made by a Japanese catering company, so it makes sense that it would suit Japanese tastes.

Chicken in-flight meal

The in-flight meal that Mizuki ordered was a [CHICKEN] type in-flight meal. This is a main dish of fried chicken with spicy sauce and rice, and like mine, it comes with salad, green tea noodles, and a small castella.

As for the taste, this one also has a strong taste and is delicious. Even in China, food from Cantonese areas such as Hong Kong and Macau has a light salty taste that leaves Japanese people feeling a little unsatisfied, but the food on this flight from Osaka to Macau was solid. The seasoning was very delicious.

Accompanying salad and tea soba. This was also delicious and had the flavor of a side dish that you would normally find at a Japanese supermarket.

Our first in-flight meal on Air Macau was very tasty for us.

The next in-flight meal on Air Macau was on flight NX856 (MFM→KIX), the flight back to Japan after the Macau trip.

The first in-flight meal was from Osaka, but this time the flight was from Macau, so the in-flight meal was made by a Macau catering company. In other words, the in-flight meals on this flight departing from Macau can be said to be the true strength of Air Macau's in-flight meals.

Since Air Macau's first in-flight meal was highly rated, expectations were naturally high for the in-flight meal on this return flight.

Chicken in-flight meal

[Air Macau Guide] Air Macau's in-flight meals

For the in-flight meal on this flight from Macau to Osaka/Kansai, the cabin attendant guided me to choose between fish or chicken. There were also two Japanese CAs on board this flight from Macau, so I didn't have to worry about communication.

Now, this in-flight meal is Mizuki's choice of chicken in-flight meal. The main dish is boiled chicken, steamed vegetables, and rice, and side dishes include salad, somen noodles, pickles, and cut fruit.

As for the taste, I personally found it average, but Mizuki wasn't too impressed. She noted that the chicken had a gamey smell, the somen noodles were too soft, and the salad contained tobiko (flying fish roe), which she didn't like. She chose chicken because she's not fond of fish, so she was a bit disappointed.

I don't dislike fish. Furthermore, I might have gotten a bit accustomed to the flavors in Macau after eating a lot of mild-flavored chicken and duck meat with its unique smell there (lol).

Fish in-flight meal

The in-flight meal I ordered was the [Fish] in-flight meal. The fish is something like salmon and is dressed with something like white sauce or white miso, and the main dish includes rice and steamed vegetables, and the accompaniments are the same salad as the chicken, somen noodles, cut fruit, etc. And pickles.

As for the taste, I was a bit hesitant, wondering if fish in inflight meals would be okay. However, I tried it tentatively and surprisingly found it quite delicious.

Usually, in-flight meals on flights departing from other countries tend to be unpalatable and difficult to finish, but this time I was able to finish the in-flight meal on Air Macau. Personally, I think Air Macau's in-flight meals were delicious.

Drinking Macau Beer on board Macau Airlines

[Air Macau Guide] Air Macau's in-flight meals

During meal times on flights, we usually opt for beer from the airline's home country, and on this Macau Airlines flight, we enjoyed some Macau Beer.

Macau beer has a slightly peculiar taste, and if you drink it well-chilled, you won't notice this characteristic, but the Macau beer I had on the Air Macau flight was not very cold and had a lot of foam. There was so much that it was a little hard to drink.

Next time I order a beer on Air Macau, I think it would be a good idea to get a glass of ice with the beer and chill it.

Air Macau (Macau Airlines) in-flight meal summary

[Air Macau Guide] Air Macau's in-flight meals

In-flight meals in economy class of Air Macau, Macau's flagship carrier. I remember many of the in-flight meals on Chinese planes I had flown in the past not being to my taste, so I expected that Air Macau's in-flight meals would not be very tasty either, but when I actually tried them, I was surprised to find that they were delicious.

However, according to Mizuki, the chicken on the return flight wasn't tasty. So, overall, it seems like if you don't expect too much, you'll get something decent to eat.

Also, the beer served on Macau Airlines flights may not be very cold, so it might not taste that great. It's recommended to opt for a soft drink instead. If you really want to have a beer, be aware that you might need to chill it with ice or something similar.
